This is a very interesting German 98k bayonet which was captured by an American soldier and cut down for use as a fighting knife. The knife is contained within a USN Mark 2 Scabbard. The ricasso still bears a very faint maker code clc for manufacture by Richard Abraham Herder of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in the mountains of Eastern Germany.
