It appears that this bronze was removed from a plinth or base and that it was vandalized which was very common after his death on April 28th

with a lovely aged patina on the exterior

This is a wonderful example of The Cross of Honour of the German Mother or Mutterkreuz (Mothers Cross) in gold (1st class, Gold Cross: eligible mothers with eight or more children!). The case is maker marked by L. Bertsch of Karlsruhe. Reverse of medal reads 16 December 1938, which is the date that the award was first established, along with AH's Signature. The condition is excellent with no signs of being worn.
